Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons,

and you will find that it is to the soul what the water bath is to the body.

-Oliver Wendell Holmes

Dear Friends of Music at Abington,

As I look forward to Music at Abington’s thirty-eighth season, the ninth season I am privileged to share with you, I am especially aware of the unique vision and mission of this concert series within our community. I don’t know where else one can find the variety, professionalism, participation, and community partnership to provide free access to classical music which defines this series. All are invited to these regular “music baths” Holmes encouraged! Music at Abington remains a significant source of beauty and professional artistry right hear in Abington, a source of participation in the arts for local singers and instrumentalists, and a gathering place for neighbors and friends.

Inside you will find programs featuring world-class soloists like Jennifer Montone of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Curtis Institute of Music graduate Mirjam Ingolfsson, and return favorites Timothy Schwarz and Kate Ransom. The Mainstreet Brass Quintet and Follow the Drinking Gourd mark their first appearances at Music at Abington alongside annual favorites: Christmas by Candlelight, the Annual Memorial Concert featuring Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and our Organ Tuesdays in February. Please place these dates on your calendar and help us share the beauty of the season by sharing these dates with occasional visitors and inviting first-time listeners to join you at one or more of these concerts.

At a time when many arts organizations are making significant cuts, the high attendance, freewill donations, and sponsorships last season have affirmed strong support for Music at Abington and its vital presence in the community. Now, perhaps more than ever, the goal of Music at Abington to provide anyone and everyone the opportunity to experience live music of the highest quality without regard to ticket price is clear. Your participation in this goal is especially important as grant and foundation revenue is decreasing. You presence at these programs is our first priority; your participation in making them possible follows close behind. To that end you will find this season’s offerings include a fundraiser concert in addition to our annual invitation for sponsorship. Please support Music at Abington with a gift, and plan to join us each month!
