2004 Mission Trip
July 24 to August 1

24 senior High Youth and 5 adults from APC traveled to Lubec Maine to participate in the “group Workcamps Kennebec” experience. After an overnight stay at the Carpenters Boatshop in Pemiquid, Me we arrived at our home for the week, the Lubec High School. We were divided into crews of 1 adult and 5 youth and sent out to one of 60 project sites to build, roof, and paint the houses of our residents. After a long days work, we returned to the High School for meals and an evening program and even a visit from the governor of Maine. We left on Saturday with our projects finished (or nearly so) and a new appreciation of our ability to show God’s love through service.

Comments from Workcampers

I love God,
God loves me
I built a deck without a check
Go God

The workcamp in Lubec, Maine made me more aware of my faith in God as Jesus Christ showed us his unyielding strength and love.

It never ceases to amaze me how God’s love is able to unify our group at APC. We had an empowering experience in Lubec. I feel blessed to have been able to share this time with our group

Work camp helped me to stretch my carpentry skills while working with a wonderful group of people to help a very deserving woman and her 94 year old mother. It helped me to come closer to God by service.

Workcamp put my faith into action and reminds me to live for Christ and his mission

I can honestly say that this trip has brought me much closer to God and has truly helped me grow as a person. I have also made friends that I will continue to talk to and will make an effort to keep them as part of my life

The workcamp affected me by giving me a great religious experience building to last. Good stuff.

We had the opportunity to show God’s love by hands-on service. However, what we received was more than what we gave. We received blessings of gratitude, friendships, and increased faith in our intense and exhausting week

I came away from workcamp with a new appreciation for what I have. It really made me realize how good I have it.

God is Great,
God is good
I like snakes and taking lunch breaks
Go God

A new roof, a new porch, and a fresh coat of paint – all in 5 days. What a blessing for all involved.

I have learned that God works in ways directly, but he works and changes people, and the people have more impact, and their teachings will eventually be a direct work. Faith goes back in circles.

It has caused me to reexamine my spirituality and to become closer to God by acknowledging distractions present in my life and attempting to overcome them

I became closer to God by working for the people of God

I feel like the trip has allowed me to gain closer relationships not only with the people from the youth group, but with God and my faith

Workcamp has impacted me… I made several new friends and I learned how to shingle and use a power saw. Also I conquered my fear of heights and got on the roof.

Through the “God Sightings” I was able to fully appreciate God’s influence in our work

Learned how to remember to praise and follow the lord every second of my life through special reminders because before I would constantly forget his word

Camp made me appreciate what I have and that I don’t live in Lubec.

I built friendships to last. When more than one gather, God is there.

Workcamp had me question my faith. By the end of the week, I felt like I grew in my faith.

I heard my call: I’m going to be a minister

I learned a lot about how a group can accomplish a seemingly impossible task for one person

I bonded with my new youth group, and learned how to help others in ways I never thought I could.

Helped my faith grow in a way that Montreat did not, and helped me grow closer with the youth group

I have been inspired to put my faith into action with my family on a daily basis through devotions and prayer

I made a visible difference in someone’s life! I met God face-to-face

Amazing new friends I will keep forever and even stronger bonds with those I already love

This week the workcamp affected me by bringing me closer to God and by bringing me closer to my youth group
