Board of Deacons
The Deacons of Abington Presbyterian Church are charged to
minister "to those who are in need, to the sick, to the
friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and
beyond the community of faith..."
From the beginning of the first century church, deacons were
appointed to collect "alms" and distribute them among the
poor. At Abington Presbyterian Church, the Board of Deacons
is charged with ministering to the members of the congregation,
providing for their care and comfort. They also have some
responsibilities that fulfill the call to minister beyond the
community of faith, including emergency help, special projects and
food baskets.
Abington Presbyterian Church's membership is divided up into 30
geographical districts called parishes. Each deacon is
responsible for one parish. Their responsibility is to be the
first line of pastoral help to people in their area.
The coordination of their work is overseen by the
Co-moderators: Kathleen Zimmerman and Donald
Brooks.
