Learn about the Organ Restoration Campaign

In Honorary Recognition

Through this Organ Restoration Campaign we are honoring the lifelong commitment of Jean McDevitt in service to this congregation.  Jean has volunteered at APC for over fifty years.  She and her husband, Ralph, raised their children and several grandchildren here.  The worship and music programs have been the special benficiaries of her service. What she has shown by action is the embodiment of faith and commitment. We join together through our gifts to restore this magnificent instrument in her honor.

The Silent Church

On Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, the APC organ failed during the 9:00 A.M. service. This was the most visible of numerous, similar failures over the last several years.  APC's Möller organ, installed in 1969, shows considerable wear and evidence of its constant use over the past forty years.  It is imperative to address this situation now to avoid complete failure and loss of this community treasure.

Research, plan, and action

An organ task force appointed by the Session developed a working plan for the reconditioning of the organ with the expertise of several professionals. The components of this restoration and estimated costs of each element formed the foundation of this restoration campaign. This campaign under the leadership of Gilbert and Susan High was approved by the Session to move forward with the needed repair and restoration .

Summary

Today we have a fantastic opportunity through this campaign to participate in renewing and enhancing the organ for today's community and as a legacy for future generations.  All those who experience the sound of the organ in worship, funerals, weddings, recitals or concerts are the beneficiaries of a preceding generation's visionary planning and giving. We, too, can now remember this heritage, renew our own commitment, and let the organ resound again!
