Welcome to Abington Presbyterian Church

THIS WEEK AT ABINGTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

February 18, 2018

Lent has begun.  The word for the season of Lent comes from the old English ‘lencten,’ which means spring.  It is indeed a time for growth.  During this season, Kirby and Diane will focus their sermons on following Jesus’ journey to the cross as told in Mark’s Gospel.  The sermon series will be called, “Via Dolorosa.”  This Lenten season is a great time to focus on studying the bible.  There are three bible study groups that read and discuss the passages before each week.  Tuesdays from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.; Wednesdays from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.; Wednesdays from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m.  All groups meet in the parlor.  All are welcome.  The scripture passages for this Sunday are Jeremiah 15:15-21 and Mark 8:31-38.  The sermon is entitled: “Via Dolorosa: Suffering on the Horizon?”

Thanks to all those who enabled a great start to this Lenten season with the dinner and worship service on Ash Wednesday!

At 8:45 Sunday morning in the parlor, our Adult Forum topic will be “Lent Madness,” led by Charlotte Dean.  Dr. Stephen Kim’s class “Why I am a Christian” continues in Room 108 at 8:45 on Sunday also.

With sadness, we announce that Linda Lonsinger died on February 13.  Her memorial service will be at APC next Tuesday, February 20, at 2:30 with a reception to follow.  Please be in prayer for all who feel her death as a loss.

Music At Abington’s Tuesday noon organ recitals in February continue.  Colin O’Malley will be the guest performer this week.  And on Friday, February 23 at 8 p.m., Music At Abington hosts the Anderson Jazz Trio – all jazz lovers and soon-to-be jazz lovers will be thrilled.

As has been announced, February 25 will be Ethel Geist’s last Sunday serving as our organist.  There will be a reception that day honoring her.  If you would like to add to a congregational gift of appreciation for her, please make it out to APC and note “Ethel’s gift” in the memo line.

Looking ahead: a congregational meeting has been called for Sunday, March 4, following the 10:00 worship service to elect officers, vote on terms of call for the pastors, and to receive information contained in the annual report.

Grace and peace,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
