THIS WEEK AT ABINGTON PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

December 16, 2018

This Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent.  The light of Christ’s approach is starting to shine brighter.  This Sunday, we hear from Zephaniah 3:14-20 and Luke 3:7-18 with the sermon entitled, “Bearing Good Fruit.”  Worship services are at 8 a.m. in the chapel and at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.  We will be welcoming new members this Sunday!

Then Sunday afternoon is Christmas By Candlelight at 4:30 and 7 p.m.  The theme this year is “All Earth is Hopeful, the Savior Comes at Last.”  This is our annual community gathering to sing carols with children, youth, and adult choirs, orchestra, bells, and organ with a candlelight procession.  For those who do not have mobility concerns, please park a little farther away to allow those who need to park closer to do so.

The Sunday morning Bible study class is focusing on the Book of Jonah.  It meets in Room 108 at 8:45 and is led by Dr. Stephen Kim.  The Adult Forum this Sunday will be sharing information about our own historic Abington Presbyterian Cemetery that dates back to the 1720’s.  David Rowland will lead the class that meets in the parlor at 8:45.

This Sunday is the deadline to bring in The Village Christmas gifts – please bring them labeled and unwrapped.

We continue to have available the Alternative Christmas Gift Market to purchase ministry items for people in need around the world.  Whether it is farming tools, supplies for displaced students, or winter heating fuel for refugees or something else (there are 13 projects you can help fund at various prices), you can honor someone with a gift given in their name, and you will receive a note card listing the gift to be shared with the person you are honoring.

Friday evening, December 21 from 6-7:30 is a time for Christmas Caroling for all ages.  Meet at the church to organize the groups that will be walking through the neighborhood or carpooling to ‘indoor’ caroling sites.

It is time to make your Christmas Eve plans and to invite your friends to be with us for the grand celebration of the birth of our Lord!  There will be the Family Friendly Service at 5 p.m., a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m. and candlelight communion service at 11 p.m.

With Advent hope and peace,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
