2018 Capital Campaign Commitment Card

February 17, 2019

This Sunday, February 17, we’ll explore what Jesus turns upside down.  Our scripture texts will be Jeremiah 17:5-10 and Luke 6:17-26.  Have you ever looked at the Beatitudes that are painted on the archway in the sanctuary?  How is Luke’s version different and how do we interpret that?  Worship services at 8 and 10 a.m.

During Adult Forum this Sunday, Grace Song of the Won Institute will be sharing with us “Aspects of Buddhism.” This is a chance to learn more about Buddhism and this important faith community in our area.  8:45 in the Parlor.  Dr. Stephen Kim will lead the Bible Study class on Jonah at 8:45 in Room 108.  There are also Bible Studies each Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. in the chapel and at 4:15 p.m. in the parlor.

The church office will be closed for Presidents’ Day this Monday, February 18.

Music At Abington presents American Guild of Organist Organ recitals each Tuesday in February at noon in our sanctuary.  February 12’s recital was postponed due to weather; it will be re-scheduled.  February 19 we will hear Young Shim.  February 26 will be our own Sean Burns.

The whole congregation is invited to read Wonder by R.J. Palacio about an extraordinary boy with an extraordinary face who inspired a movement called ‘Choose Kind.’  Hardback copies of the book are available in the church office for $9 (list price is $16.99).  The book discussion for all ages, led by our children and youth, will be Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m.

The next gathering of our Theological Book Club will be Saturday, February 23 at 8 a.m. in my office.  We will be discussing The Dignity Revolution: Reclaiming God’s Rich Vision for Humanity by Daniel Darling.  Come for breakfast and interesting discussion whether you have read the book or not.

The Session has called for the Annual Meeting of our congregation and corporation to be held Sunday, February 24 following the 10 a.m. worship service.  The purpose of the meeting is to receive reports from councils and committees, financial and audit reports, elect church officers and vote on terms of call for the pastor.

This Saturday, a memorial service for Barbara Elliott will be held in the sanctuary at 11 a.m.  You may greet the family starting at 10 a.m.  A reception will follow in the parish hall.

A special word of thanks goes to those who helped with Quizzo last week, particularly to Kevin Kelly, who put together all the questions!

Thankful for many blessings within and through this congregation,

Kirby Lawrence Hill
